听力原文： On June 17, 1744, the officials from Maryland and Virginia held a talk with the Indians of the Six Nations. The Indians were invited to send boys to William and Mary College. In a letter the next day they refused the offer as follows:
We know that you have a high opinion of the kind of learning taught in your colleges, and that the costs of living of our young men, while with you, would be very expensive to you. We are convinced that you mean to do us good by your proposal; and we thank you heartily. 听力原文： In public speaking, the watch word is preparation. Most of us tend to put things off, at least occasionally. It's so easy to put things off especially those things we do not look forward to doing. So if the speaking engagement is several weeks off, we may feel that we still have plenty of time. But as the day draws closer, we begin to panic. Don't let this happen to you. Start preparing as soon as you're given or accept the speaking assignment. You have much to do and to do it right will take time. How much better your speech will be and how much better you'll feel if you have taken the time to do it right! When you are prepared, you have gathered the needed data, determined what is appropriate to the listener's understanding and acceptance levels, organized the ideas so they flow logically, selected examples and other supports for your ideas and made them interesting to your listeners, developed a great opening that you know will capture the attention of even the daydreamers in your audience checked out the room where you'll be speaking and requested any feasible changes you wish in the set-up of the room If you are prepared, you are confident that you can best convey your message to your listeners. M: Yes, I'd be very happy to, as long as they're held here in my area.

SYLVIA: Yes, that's the idea. We want to enjoy the surf, sand and sunshine.
AGENT: Okay, but before we settle on an area and discuss your price range, I'll need to know about other necessities.
SYLVIA: What do you mean？
AGENT: Well, for example, do you want to be close to a shopping mall or the casino or the fun parks？ Or do you want to be in a complex with or near a swimming pool？
SYLVIA: No, none of that really matters to us but we'd like to have reasonable access to the motorway so that we can drive up to Brisbane to visit friends there.
AGENT: Well, there are quite a few lovely small towns to choose from. There's Main Beach which is north of Surfers' Paradise or Mermaid Waters which is a bit further south or Palm Beach which is quite a bit further south？
SYLVIA: Mermaid Waters sounds delightful. Is it close to the motorway？
AGENT: Well, not really, the M 1 is actually closest to Palm Beach and prices are likely to be more reasonable there too.
SYLVIA: That's settled then, Palm Beach it is.

听力原文： Last summer, I took my first flight from London to New York. I boarded the plane at Crayon Airfield and, from that moment on, my life was arranged for me on the trip. First, I was directed to my seat by the stewardess, and then when the plane was ready to take off, the other passengers and I were told to fasten our seat belts. A few minutes after take-off, magazines and newspapers were passed out. Because my ears hurt, I was given some gum to chew. Next, we were given instructions on what to do in case of an emergency. We were given earphones to listen to music and told that a movie would be shown after dinner. Before dinner, we were asked if we wanted a cocktail. Dinner was served on a tray, and it was attractive and delicious. We were permitted to have a refill on any beverage. After the dinner, we were shown a new Hollywood movie. When I felt cold, I was given a blanket, when I felt airsick the stewardess gave me a paper bag. Everything was done for the comfort of the passengers.
